I like this coffee maker except for one thing, the carafe is a poor design. I read a lot of reviews including Consumer Reports which gave this unit high marks. I agree it makes very consistent cups of coffee. Easy to set/program. It keeps the coffee hot on the plate which has three temp settings and an auto off feature. The only con is the carafe. It has a plastic ring around the top that prevents all the water from being poured into the reservoir. I included pics but it is difficult to see that you must turn it upside down to get out the last water. It should be designed like my old Mr Coffee without the rim. See my pic of the old Mr coffee. If you watch the videos made for this unit, they all show the reservoir being filled with a separate pitcher of water. After purchasing I now know why. One other note, it claims to be a 14 cup unit but the size 4 paper cone shaped filters that are recommend and a few are shipped with the maker, are all 12 cup. You could only get 14 by leaving out the filters.

I really like this coffee maker with the exception of the lid on the carafe. It doesn't have a hinge so you can't lift it with your thumb. The lid snaps in place instead so when you want to rinse the carafe when the coffee is done you have to pull the hot lid off with your fingers. Other than that, it works great. I like the 14 cup capacity and it uses deep cone shaped filters so the grounds never overflow. That was a big problem with my last coffee maker. The controls are easy to use and you can turn the beeping sound off. This would have rated 5 stars if not for the lid issue.

    Coffee Pot
My coffee pot is excellent. It cracked, my fault, and I need to replace the coffee pot and the filter.

This coffeemaker has an attractive appearance and comes with a reusable mesh filter so you don't have the waste or expense of paper filters. It has a large capacity, and I especially like the "Bold" brew option. I'm giving it only 4 stars rather than 5 because the lid is not attached to the carafe and doesn't fit securely, so I have to use my other hand to hold in place while I'm pouring or it will slip or fall off, making a mess. Other than that relatively minor annoyance, I am pleased with this purchase.

    a) Arrived well packaged and complete. B) Classic Cuisinart style. I have been using this or similar models for years. c) I love the heater temp adjustment as I do not like scalding hot coffee and the lower heat helps the coffee stay fresh longer. d) I deduct a star for the carafe design . 1) It should have a thumb pop up so you can easily open the top with one hand. This you have to manually snap off the top and snap it back on. and the age old issues with these coffee makers... the carafes drip as you pour water into the coffee maker and when you pour from a full pot of coffee.

I like the many features this coffeemaker has especially being able to preset it for the next day. It's very easy to set up the features with easy to follow directions. The reusable filter is nice however I noticed some very fine grounds occasionally get through so I now also use inexpensive paper filters in addition. The top of the carafe comes off but does not flip up so I must remove it every time I fill the carafe at my refrigerator or when washing. I find it awkward to fully empty the carafe into the water reservoir. The angle is hard and the area is small so I often find I've gotten water in the coffee grounds spot by accident. I can never get all the water out of the carafe when pouring either. None of these things are a huge deal, just annoying. I saw similar coffeemakers from other brands that were less expensive but I went with Cuisinart for the 3 year warranty and because of it's reputation. Time will tell.

This is my second Cuisinart coffee maker and the first one lasted for 15 years and never made a bad pot of coffee. The only reason I give this four stars is because I bought some fine grind canned coffee and there was some overflow when I tried to make the first pot. I don't remember the old one ever doing this and it uses the same steel mesh coffee holder. I'm going to run the coffee holder in the dishwasher and see if the problem is with the coffee holder. It says specifically in the instructions to not use fine grind coffee because it might spill over which it did. I had already bought this 3 lb can of coffee at Costco before I bought the coffee pot. So what I do now is I make cowboy coffee. I boil enough water to fill the carafe and then I add about three or four heaping tablespoons of coffee and let it let that sit for about 3 or 4 minutes and then I strain the coffee back into the carafe. It actually makes a superior pot of coffee if you let the boiling water cool off just a little bit after the you turn off the burner

I am pretty satisfied with this coffee maker. I previously owned a Braun 12 Cup maker which looks almost exactly the same as this Cuisinart Coffee Maker. I was happy with the Braun but bought the Cuisinart because of the 3-year warranty. Other than that, I think the quality of the coffee taste is about the same. The only thing I dislike about the Cuisinart is that is has these small hard plastic feet which allows the coffee maker slide all over the counter. The Braun had rubber feet, so it stayed locked in place right where you put it. I have my coffee maker on top of a k-cup storage draw and it's important that the coffee maker stay in place and not slide off. This is my only complaint, and I'll figure out a way to stop the sliding.

    ---- The pot lid ----
    - This one has to go first: the lid of the carafe pot is SNAP ON. It doesn't have a hinge. If you want to clean the pot you take the entire lid off. If you refill it with a fridge dispenser, the lid has to be entirely removed. I really, really hate this. Despise even. Here's why:

You better not forget to put that lid back on the pot. You're about to go to bed, maybe you're half awake, I forgot to put the lid on when I put the pot back on the unit. In the morning I came out to a disaster, the coffee couldn't drain into the pot because it needs the lid to push the drain open. It overflowed inside the machine. I had coffee grounds in every crevice of the machine. I had to unplug it, wash everything out. I replaced the filter because it was brown now. THE LID SHOULD STAY ATTACHED ON A HINGE LIKE EVERY OTHER COFFEE POT.

And how many times can I remove the lid and snap it back on until it wears down and the lid won't stay on without being held in place as I pour?

    ---- Doesn't leak (so far) ----
    - I've seen the other reviews about leaks. I've only had it 2 weeks but it doesn't "leak" that I've seen. The evaporated water does collect under the top lid, will remain there, and will drip down the back of the unit when you open the lid to clean and/or refill. It's not much but it requires a quick wipe every once in a while. That's a bad design but not a reason not to get this unit.

    ---- Temperature ----
    - On the hottest setting, the coffee temp is very hot. I can drink it immediately after pouring it, that's a deal breaker for me. It has low and medium settings if you're not like me.

    ---- Coffee ready tone ----
    - I've tried both settings and the unit doesn't make a sound when the coffee is done. Some people don't want a beep or anything, I do. I'm not returning it over this, but it's annoying I can't have the coffee done beep.

    ---- Speed ----
    - This is not a fast brewer, especially on bold which is expected to some extent. I timed it at 20 minutes on a full pot for bold. You can set it earlier to be ready when you want it to be, but just be aware: if you're trying to make a quick pot before flying out the door, it's not happening if you didn't time it or need to leave earlier than expected.

    ---- Programming ----
    - Setting the clock and auto timer is a bit clunky. You hold the button to set the timer, sometimes it goes to the start time clock and blinks, sometimes it doesn't and you try again. I got the hang of it, but it doesn't seem consistent. Not worth returning over.

Overall I'm happy with it for the most part. I hate the lid. So much. And the drip behind the machine is certainly annoying as others have pointed out.
