The app is great. Vacuum suction capacity and runtime are good. No self wash n dryer, fewer components and less complex to deal with. Likely and hopefully won’t have any major breakdowns with this.
Cons:
It skips corners unlike the higher models. The single brush to sweep corners is okay and can leave dust n particles there
Mopping is basic and skips corners as well. At this price range, it is a good option
TLDR: Vacuum is decent but skips corners. For Mopping, look elsewhere
Update: robot was repaired and returned and is working great again. In the meantime, I purchased a cheap backup and the Roborock does a much better job cleaning. After one day of this one back, it cleaned up all the tracks on my floor the other one had been mopping for a week. I’d give it 5 stars if I hadn’t had to repair it twice.
The positives are the mapping and the camera. The camera makes mapping very fast and also identifies items on the floor to tell you why it may have circumvented some areas. Pet symbols, shoe symbols, etc show you why it may have missed that spot. I have a room with a safety fence for which I keep the door open, but it can see there is a portion of room there that wasn't vacuumed. Because it does some real-time mapping, there is no need to "re-map" if you need to move the base as it will figure out where it is.
On wood or hard floors it is rather quiet, but the sound ramps up on carpet (even runners). You can set a schedule in advance and it suggests various routines to you such as mopping or vacuuming your kitchen after dinner. The zoning works well so I can vacuum a different set of rooms on different days. In between I can just pick a portion of our home and ask it to only vacuum that area (like around our cat's litter box). While it does say it can avoid pet messes so the wheels don't "spread", that only seems to work if there is a big difference in color and shape. For example, it didn't avoid the hairball and puke on our tan carpet, but it did vacuum it up which caked up the rollers. For this reason, I would still check around the house if you have pets.
I have chosen to not use the mop feature because it seems to only use water. That's not really mopping to me. I would rather use a gentle cleaner and actually clean rather than just spread water around a floor. I really didn't buy this for mopping though so it isn't a huge negative.
My only negative is there is a bag in the base it empties into and there is no function that can tell you when it is close to full. Because of this my entire unit clogged (from vacuum through to the bag) and I couldn't even remove the bag properly. I had to cut the bag out, remove debris in collecting unit piping just to be able to remove the plastic fitting for the bag itself. I understand they may want to use the same software for multiple units, but even a reminder to check the bag after a set number of uses would be helpful.
Otherwise, after having 3 Roombas this brand and model are definitely worth the price and I'd gladly buy again.
to ask a simple question. or give a phone number to call to solve this simple problem.
The dock is actually very convenient with a wide enough entry platform to let you tuck this guy away, and a reasonably large dustbin. It doesn't have a mop bin so good luck if that was something you plan on using. It also is packaged with an entirely mismatched power cable that is gray in spite of the black color everywhere else. Seems like cost cutting in my opinion.
The robot is very generic looking and rather large. It won't fit in tight nooks and crannies as a result and is surprisingly tall. If you are hoping for it to get under objects maybe look at a more compact alternative.
Object avoidance has been practically non-existent for me; the vacuum seems to have a knack for finding cords, folders, cat toys, etc. regardless of the flooring type or color. I’d like the option to turn off the auto-clean mode, so that I could choose when it leaves the dock, but I haven’t found the ability to do so. I don’t want cat yack on my mop, in my vacuum, or all over the house. Cleaning hair from the ends of the brushes is so easy. You just remove the ends and the hair slides off. Reinserting the brushes is just as simple.
So, I have mixed feelings about this expensive gadget, but I definitely wouldn’t want to be without it. I use it every day!
