Small I needed a
Bigger size
Yes it weighs a lot, but that weight is quality material! Just make sure to take your time to bleed the air out during set-up, I bled it 10x until no air came out. I also stood on top of it to assist it during initial setup. Also make sure not to over tighten any of the connections. Get it snugged up without reefing it down and see if any ATF comes out.
For someone like me, this is a luxury. I don't work on cars a lot, but I really enjoy being able to bleed my own brakes and change oil any time, without an appointment. I can get it done faster than driving to a mechanic. Maybe someday the QuickJack will pay for itself, but even if not, I'm glad I went for this cool tool.
I got this 5000TL model for my Focus RS. It will lift most any car, but a truck or SUV would likely need the 7000TL.
There are some aftermarket wheel kits available that turn these behemoths into virtual skateboards. It's a simple bolt on mod. They're not cheap but well worth a look. I went that route- problem solved.
First set up took me a couple hours. Ordering ATF saves a trip to the store. Note hydraulic couplings require patience to work sometimes. Quickjack requires a flat surface to stand squarely. A small crack in the driveway had me wondering if the jack was defective but my mistake. Customer service was quick to respond to my inquiry.
Storage is not much problem. With Quickjack's low profile they are easy to store. Just hang them on the wall. An inexpensive Harbor Freight block and tackle can lift the jack onto wall hangers. I use a fifth wheel pin puller hook to easily move jacks across floor.
The 5000 TL will lift the "64 MGB or a 1935 Ford with stability.
This is an excellent lift for my home shop. The best. No regrets. It's just important to know what to expect.
Love my jacks. Easy to set up and use
They sent me the wrong elbow fitting (was way too big) that did not fit the hydraulic hose for my 5000TL. Took a while to get a replacement.
Other than that, easy to setup, quick guide was fantastic to read and discern.
Few points that I would like to see improved. The quick detach couplers are far to stiff to push in to connect by average hands, I have had to spend $70 for a tool specifically designed for that purpose.
I found it a bit of a struggle to position the lift sections into place. The supplied handles were of no use on low slung cars. I think a boat hook with long handle would aid pulling and pushing the lift sections into place from the rear of the vehicle. A piece of string with small hooks on each end should be included in the kit in order to simply pull the lift sections out from the rear.
Don't get me wrong though - they WORK great and the function of them is pretty much second to none. They are super steady and I don't have any problem fitting underneath on my creeper with them in the air. The car is solid and doesn't move much at all. I've used them several times now and feel like they're reliable enough to count on.
There's some guy on YouTube who's attached some mini roller ball wheels onto the bottom sides to slide them around with. I may try that as they are really kind of a PITA to get set up.
Unit is well put together and have no complaints
Only drawback is it is a little unwieldy to position.
I have used these to work on all kinds of cars and I have already paid for them with the money saved by not going to store to do simple work.
Pros:
- flexible, in that they don't need to be drilled/installed onto your garage floor. They can be moved around relatively easily. I push mine together and store them under the centerline of my car when not in use. Just disconnect the hoses and park right over the top of them. Then all i have to do is slide out to the pinch welds, connect hoses to pumps, and lift the car.
- quick lifting of car, takes maybe 30 seconds
- pump and hoses pack down quite small when not in use
- lifts my Toyota 86 and Miata with no problem
- provides nearly 2 feet of clearance
Negatives:
- followed instructions but still had leaks from a few connectors. easily where the hoses attach to the lift themselves. The hydraulic cylinders pivot during the lifting process and this can force the hose against the ground if not rotated into the correct position ... the connector can essentially unthread itself.
Pro Tip: Highly suggest you attach the hoses to the lift and pump before tightening down the connectors and filling with fluid. Will help make sure you have clearance and proper alignment and save you from having to do it twice and cleaning up leaks!
If you work on you cars a lot, you won't regret investing in this tool. It actually makes turning wrenches a lot more fun!
Cannot wait to use my new QuickJack on the Mustang but for now I'll practice on her Honda CRV!!
This thing lifted and lowered my car with ease (3500lbs). And because i was getting under it, i wanted to make sure it was secure so i gave it a good shake while it was in the air… did not budge! Felt like trying to shake a brick wall (probably don’t encourage that test, rather stupid, really). But, i was impressed and got under there and changed the oil/oil filter. Plenty of room, and i am kind of fat. Love these things! Note, they are heavy as balls, so make sure you are prepared for that, and think about that when deciding where/how to store them.
But seriously, really cool, super easy. I’m just looking for other reasons to lift my car now, just for fun. I do suggest watching some videos online, there are some helpful ones if you search the product name.
